Mango 1.2 released

Posted on September 20, 2008, under Announcements.

Well, technically it's 1.2.2. But I call this release the "less annoyances" release. I haven't removed all of them, but this release should make your Mango experience happier.

Easier updates

The biggest improvement in this release is "automatic updates". Automatic in the sense that you won't have to do a lot of work to get your upgrades from now on. Just click on the "Install updates" button, and everything should be automatically done by Mango itself. You will see this feature working fully in the next update.

Less annoying cache

Was the never-clearing-cache getting on your nerves? not anymore! This version introduces a new way of looking at things, so the cache should be much more responsive. That also affects changes of themes, changes in plugins, and changes done from the Pod Manager.

Many more things

There are other smaller additions and changes such as being able to add categories while creating a post, being able to delete categories, not allowing a commenter to write the same comment twice to the same post (to avoid refresh/resubmit comment), showing friendlier messages when a plugin is activated, and more.

So what are you waiting for? Download this update!

Thanks to Brian Rinaldi, Dan Short and Andrew Powell for submiting fixes.

:) hehe, Thanks Laura! I am just happy to watch Mango mature and kick the pant's off other systems! If our community can help make that happen all the better!

No tweaks to the <code> block handling? Whenever someone asks me about Mango I rave about the setup and the themes and styling, they ask me what I dont like and really the mess with disabling javascript and adding <code> blocks is it. There *has* to be some way of doing this simply. Is anyone working on this front or should I play (other than a js button to enable / disable the tinyMCE functionality?)

That was one of the annoyances that are still there. I hope to have a solution for that perhaps in the next release (no promises!). Though if somebody wants to help, I have some ideas on how to tackle the problem that I can share with you.

Thanks for the update, how do we implement the new recent comments tag?

I tried to update from 1.1 to 1.2. Although everything seemed to go okay. After the update process was complete, the blog showed it was using 1.2.3, BUT I got a 505 error when I tried to login to http:/cyberciphering.com/admin/index.cfm. The login screen appears, but it crashes AFTER I give it the account name and password.

I restored my system back to 1.1 and it is back up and running normally now. Any ideas why this might happen?

Laura, great job! I love the update feature. Found a small issue, the update doesnt put any new plugins into the plugins folder that were added. Not a big issue, not even sure that was the intent or not.

Thanks again for an awesome blog engine! :)

Matt,
This is some sample usage of the recent comments tag:
<code>
<mango:Comments recent count="5">
   <mango:Comment>
      <mango:CommentProperty name /> said: <mango:CommentProperty excerptChars="80" />
   </mango:Comment>
</mango:Comments>
</code>

You can see a more detailed example in the updated GlossyBlue theme.

Website Adminstrator,
I have no idea what error 505 is. Perhaps you could try enabling debugging or see if there are any errors in the CF Admin?

Josh,
That was the intent ;) If you see the output, it will say "Plugin x not installed in this system" and skip it. I hope to have a way for people to download/install plugins as easy as the themes downloads.

As a future feature it would be nice to have the recent comments tag filter based on the category. Same with the recent posts. Also the ability to display recentcount-x records. x being the number of records being display for the category in the archived post listing.

just to clairify, that is being able to display n number of recent posts or comments starting at x.

marc,
You can already do that with the posts. If you want, you can add the idea for the comments at: http://ideas.mangoblog.org
