Review by Ben Forta: "Mango Blog Is Truly Impressive"

Ben Forta has written a review about his own experiences with Mango Blog.

The blog is fast, looks good [...], and the Administrator tool is superb.

I am more than impressed with the code and how extensibility and flexibility were thought of and built in from the very beginning.

I am very happy about this very positive review. Thank you, Ben!

Version 1.3 released

I am happy to announce that we just released a major upgrade. First of all, I'd like to thank Seb Duggan for his help, who made it possible to add improvements to the admin and the way plugins are installed and developed. He also fixed some bugs and made other changes.

Some of the new features and improvements:

  • Custom authentication and custom login pages controlled from the skin
  • Updated administration forms for better styling and to work with jQuery
  • Added feature to let plugins have assets, which are automatically moved to a web accessible location upon plugin activation.
  • Added plugin auto-install functionality
  • Created a BasePlugin class to simplify plugin development
  • Added ability to preview a draft post or page
  • Many bug fixes

You can read more in the release notes. Enjoy!

Presenting Mango at the OCDev User Group

Tomorrow I'll give a presentation about Mango at a local user group (OCDev), which is managed by O?uz Demirkap?. I will show its main features, how to create a skin, how to create a plugin and if I have time, I'll show how it all works under the hood.

Everybody is invited to come, though I don't think it will be available online. You can find more information at: OCDev.org

See you there!

Mango Blog Hosting

Need hosting for your blog? How about a hosting company specialized in Mango?

Mangobloghosting.com just launched a brand new service specifically to host Mango Blog installations. I've tried the service and it was very fast. They also said that they will have value added in the form of special plugins and themes. Their plans are very affordable and you will get up and running in no time.

Mango pre-installed in Amazon EC2 image

Gert Franz of Railo has created an Amazon EC2 image that anyone can use to duplicate in their own Amazon EC2 (Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud) space. I am very happy to see that they have pre-installed Mango there, so it has never been easier to get up and running Mango in Amazon EC2.

Mango Wear themes

Designer Mark Aplet has launched a new website for Mango themes: Mango Wear. This is very good news for users of Mango because it means you'll have a great source for quality themes. He already has four free themes and two beautiful premium themes that are really worth the money.

I hope to be able to add his free themes to the admin downloads, but in the meantime, you can download them from his new website. While you are there, consider buying one of his premium themes, to get a "unique" look for your blog.
